ABOUT:
Dr John Carlos, an American Activist / Athlete who won the bronze-medal in 1968 in the 200 meters at the Summer Olympics, is also known for holding his fist in the air (a controversial gesture at the time known as the "Black Power salute") while on the Olympic podium with Tommie Smith after they won that summer in the heat of the Civil Rights Movement. Dr Carlos went on to break the 200 meter world record.
